AREAS OF INTEREST
At Ohr Ami - The Jewish Hospice Program, we strive to help volunteers bring their special talents and "gifts" to our patients and their families. The following is just a small example of the areas of interest for you to participate and volunteer with Ohr Ami.
Patient Care Volunteers Patient Care Volunteers are assigned a patient and family, after completing the volunteer training course. The assignment is based on the geographical area of convenience for the volunteer. These volunteers provide from one to four hours of service per week. The duties of the patient care volunteer may include; reading to the patient, writing letters, holding hands, playing music, taking the patient outside in the wheelchair, providing support and companionship for the patient, providing relief for the caregiver or family, shopping and errands.
Bereavement Volunteers Bereavement Volunteers, under the direction of the Bereavement Coordinator, make scheduled phone calls to bereaved family and friends. May make bereavement visits in the home.
Special Project Volunteers These volunteers provide a variety of crafts for the patients, pet therapy, calling patients to check up on them and any other specialty task that enhances the quality of life for our patients.
Administrative Volunteers Volunteers help out in our office located at 5280 Carroll Canyon Road, in Sorrento Valley. The duties for this volunteer position may include: making bereavement packets, filing, typing, copying, faxing, computer work, collating admission packets and various office duties.
